France Michel 17ND k used, 1862 reprint of the 1 fr Napoleon imperforated tête-bêche pair. With good margins all around and bearing a posthumous cancellation, accompanied by a 2007 Roger Calves certificate of authenticity. The certificate mentions that the cancellation is "apocryphe", meaning of doubtful origin/authenticity. only 40 tête-bêche pairs were reprinted in 1862 and some of those (very few) did receive favour cancellations with original handstamps (usually the star of dots, as is the case of this pair as well) at some point afterwards. In any case, much fewer than the 40 examples printed have survived, and even fewer are "cancelled". The Maury catalogue value for a mint tête-bêche pair is EUR 37,500. A small thin spot of no particular importance is not mentioned in the certificate. Excellent exhibition item! (Reserve approx. € 10000 / $11000)
