Abraham Lincoln Autograph Endorsement Signed "A. Lincoln" as president, March 22nd 1865. Originally from a larger letter requesting a discharge for a soldier (from which this endorsement at some point was removed), Text of discharge in unknown hand however the president has Signed: "A. Lincoln" Slightly toned however overall in excellent condition.  By February, 1865, the war was well in hand for the United States. City after city throughout the South was falling into Federal hands. Ulysses S. Grant was wrapping up the siege of Petersburg, Virginia, and within two months the Confederate capital of Richmond would fall, forcing the surrender of Robert E. Lee and his Army of Northern Virginia. Unfortunately, Less than one month after authorizing this discharge, Lincoln himself would fall victim, becoming one of the last casualties of a war which tore apart the nation.
