The 16th President of the United States, and certainly one of its most popular, Lincoln’s accomplishments are some of America’s most important achievements- abolishing slavery, preserving the Union during the Civil War and solidifying the government and nation’s economy during those troubled times. His assassination at the hands of Confederate sympathizer John Wilkes Booth was one of America’s greatest tragedies. The presented document is for the military appointment of John A. Bolles appointing him additional aide de camp with the rank of Major. The approximately 14”x19” partially-printed document is dated April 9, 1863 and features the signatures of President Lincoln, the Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton and one other at the top left side in black fountain pen with each signature projecting at a near mint or better level. The document is in overall fine condition with expected folds, scattered handling wear, small stain at the lower left side and has an intact green wafer seal.
