Marilyn Monroe was one of Hollywood’s most legendary and glamourous stars whose time came to a tragic and premature end. Monroe became the leading sex symbol of her time, dazzling audiences with her blonde bombshell looks and buzz-creating off-camera exploits. Her big break came in 1950 when she starred in a handful of movies, including small roles in the critically acclaimed films “Asphalt Jungle” and “All About Eve”. Those roles launched her into more prominent leading roles, many of which flaunted her appealing sexuality, including “Niagra”, “Gentleman Prefer Blondes”, and “Some Like it Hot” (which many consider to be her finest acting performance). Her most famous scene, and one of Hollywood’s most notable of all time, happened in the 1954 comedy “Seven Year Itch”, in which Monroe’s white dress is blown above her head as she stands over a subway grate as a subway train travels by underneath. In her personal life, she had many marriages and love affairs including marriages to New York Yankees Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio and playwright Arthur Miller. She also had a much gossiped about affair with United States President John F. Kennedy- another one of her notable moments came when she sang “Happy Birthday” to Kennedy at his 45th birthday party celebration on May 19, 1962 at Madison Square Garden. on August 5, 1962, Monroe was found dead in her bedroom at the age of 36 from acute barbiturate poisoning. The official ruling of her death was suicide, but there are many conspiracy theories suggesting foul play, some theories relating to her connection with JFK. Presented is a marvelous custom matted and framed display featuring a 3 ¼” x 3 ¼” cut signature signed by Monroe in blue ballpoint pen exhibiting a Nm to Mint signature. It comes prominently displayed with a fabulous black and white photograph picturing an up-close angle of the famous dress blowing scene from “Seven Year Itch” with printed and scripted “Marilyn Monroe” at the top center. on August 7, 1955, the legendary Marilyn Monroe visited the small town of Bemet, Illinois for their centennial anniversary, the same town in which Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas agreed to their historic debates. Lincoln was a favorite of Monroe’s and she visited the town to join in their celebration, soaking up the history of Lincoln. She met the townspeople, visited nursing homes and even judged a beard contest. She also visited Bryant College giving the students a short speech about Lincoln. This signature, as well as a corresponding signature being offered in our August 28th auction, was obtained during Monroe's visit to the town of Bemet in 1955. The display measures 20x26 and comes with a full Letter of Authenticity from JSA.
